On Thursday, January 31, John L. Hurt Elementary School third, fourth, and
fifth grade students participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The students were given words to spell from materials prepared
by the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. Students displayed
knowledge learned throughout their school experience while competing
for top honors.
Logan Crawley, a fifth grader, claimed first place and Kelsey Bowling,
a third grader, was the second place winner. The following students
also earned their way into the final round of the school spelling bee:
Christopher Dawson, Qijay Waller, Breyena Smith, Mariah Hunt, Everett
Worley, Kinsley Rigsby, Kristen Waller, Heaven Jennings, Autumn
Cooper, and Joseph Runnells. Logan and Kelsey will participate in the Danville Area Spelling Bee, which will be held at Averett University
on Saturday, March 16, 2019.
